To find out more about Bischem, we sat down with Dylan Yoong, Business Development Manager to discuss their journey, our partnership, and the ever-evolving bakery market.

Can you tell us a bit about the history of your company? How did you get started in this industry?

Bischem was started in 2003 as a supplier of hydrocolloids to the food and beverage industries. Back then, we were one of the pioneers to introduce these products and their technical application to customers. This marked the first step of our customer base establishment, which grew over the years, along with our product portfolio.


Can you share a unique story or an interesting fact about your company that many people might not know?

Sometimes, our conversations with customers are not fully about business. Having a certified Traditional Chinese Medicine and Nutritionist in our team has enabled additional topics to share with our customers such as diet and well-being, making our communications more interesting and dynamic.


What inspired you to partner with us, and how long have you been a distributor of our products?

We were impressed by how Kudos Blends is constantly disrupting and leading the innovation of the bakery leavening segment and at the same time, the team is very engaging in helping our customers to solve their problems. We have been distributing Kudos Blends’ products for about 3 years.


What trends are you currently seeing in your market, and how are you adapting to them?

Shelf-life extension is gaining focus in our market as manufacturers try to improve their products’ retention time over the shelf (both on the sensory and microbiological aspects) for better cost-efficiency management.

In addition, manufacturers are exploring options for cocoa-replacer or reduction solutions to reduce the cost impact of the global tight cocoa supply challenges.

We are regularly speaking to the industry players to stay up-to-date on the information and in the meantime communicating closely with our principals to align our approaches to provide the right solution.


How has the demand for our products changed in your region over the past few years?

In the past, there were very limited individuals or companies locally who were expecting more functions from baking powder and leavening agents. We have been investing our time and resources to ‘educate’ our market on the benefits that they could get by just changing into Kudos Blends products. And slowly, we are seeing new baking powder information requests coming to us from our customers to help solve/improve their products.


How do you build and maintain strong relationships with your customers?

We strive to build trust with our customers and business partners. We listen closely to our customer’s challenges and their needs, and we then attempt to provide the solution most efficiently. In doing so, we make sure our customers’ requests are being directed to our principals precisely.


What do you enjoy most about working with our company and our products?

We truly enjoy working with Kudos Blends because of the innovative and high-quality products offered, which do so much more than the regular baking powders commonly available in the Malaysian market. Additionally, the team is always supportive and responsive to our needs and enquiries. The positive feedback we have received from our customers regarding the product performance further highlights the excellence and reliability of Kudos Blends’ solutions.


Are there any specific challenges you have overcome with our products or services that you would like to share?

One notable challenge was a customer struggling with the short shelf life of their cakes. By switching to ZEUS™ G90 baking powder, the shelf life was extended by 50% – an impressive improvement. Although the customer is still conducting final testing, we are confident that these improved results will lead them to switch to Kudos Blends’ product.

Our continued partnership is key to achieving these goals, as it provides access to market-disrupting new products with superior technical support. Collaborating closely enables us to streamline distribution processes and adapt to evolving customer and market needs.
