As seen in our recent news posts, 2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting and transformative year at Kudos Blends. With the new mill line fully operational, our operations team settling into their new office space, and a cutting-edge test bakery now up and running, the next phase of our ongoing development focuses on a key area of our technical capabilities – the laboratory.
In this update, we’re excited to share the latest improvements to our lab and reveal how we’ve reimagined the space that once housed our bakery.
A Modern Makeover for the Laboratory
The most important and exciting upgrade is the new equipment for the lab. A powder rheometer and a viscosity analyser have been added to support both factory and bakery-related research.
The powder rheometer allows us to quantify various flow parameters and predict the behaviour of all powders processed in our factory, while the viscosity analyser will shed more light on the relationships between bakery ingredients/raising agents and batter viscosity. These powerful tools offer deeper insights into our ingredients and processes, reinforcing our technically-led approach.

We have also updated the appearance with the installation of glass panels, which now divide the main lab area into distinct zones. This allows for a more versatile and multi-functional environment, better suited to our evolving technical needs.
After over a decade of use, the laboratory’s original countertops were starting to show their age. They have now been replaced with sleek, chemical-resistant worktops, paired with new central shelving that expands the available workspace.
“The new layout optimises workflow. The new equipment bolsters our analytical potential. And it looks pretty!” Ryan Roberts, Technical Project Manager

From Bakery to Laboratory
The room that previously served as our test bakery has taken on a new identity. It now serves as a dedicated extension of the laboratory, housing relocated equipment and allowing for a broader range of testing to be conducted while improving workflow.
This reorganisation hasn’t just created more space, it’s also improved efficiency. By redistributing our equipment, we’ve reduced clutter and created a more pleasant working environment. “With the laboratory expansion, we will be able to conduct more high-quality research and utilise our space more effectively, so we are very excited to progress with our technical projects.” Fatima Akhtar, Laboratory Chemist
One key benefit is the relocation of our Chittick testing, used for testing the carbon dioxide release of our samples. As production volumes continue to rise, the demand for accurate and timely analysis grows too. The new layout ensures we have the capacity to meet that demand efficiently and comfortably.
“The improvements to the lab really speak to the ethos that Dinnie has instilled into the company. Investment in upgraded facilities and new equipment will only enhance our capabilities allowing us to continue to drive innovation and reinforce the technical background of Kudos Blends.” Anthony Eyles, Head of Chemistry.
These updates reflect our ongoing investment in excellence, ensuring that the Kudos Blends team continues to lead with innovation, precision, and purpose.
“This expansion has not only modernised the space but has made a big difference to how we work day-to-day. It’s great to see the lab evolving alongside the rest of the business.” Lewis Russell, Laboratory Manager
