Key members of our team recently completed the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF), delivered on site by STS First Aid.
With our site encompassing a diverse range of working environments – including our bakery, chemistry laboratory, production units and office areas – it is essential that our colleagues are prepared to respond quickly and appropriately should an emergency arise.
We have dedicated first aid representatives in key areas of the business, led by our First Aid champion Ben Morrant, and supported by our Head of Health & Safety Nick Jones. This helps ensure assistance is always close at hand, regardless of where an incident may occur. We ensure our team receive regular refresher courses as part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive working environment.
The nationally recognised Qualsafe qualification teaches the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in a range of emergency situations. During the course, participants were taught practical skills in managing an unresponsive casualty, performing CPR, treating choking, shock, wounds and bleeding, as well as dealing with a variety of minor injuries.
Building on this training, Ben is now rolling out CPR and Defibrillator Safety Awareness sessions across the company. The initiative is designed to give as many colleagues as possible the knowledge and confidence to recognise a cardiac emergency, perform CPR and understand how to use a defibrillator. While these sessions do not replace formal first aid qualifications, they help equip more of our team with vital lifesaving skills that could make a critical difference before emergency services arrive.

Expanding access to first aid knowledge is another step in our ongoing approach to improving health and safety across the business. By equipping more colleagues with these essential skills, we can help ensure the right support is available should an emergency arise.
