ARM & HAMMER Performance Products, a group within Church & Dwight’s Specialty Products Division, has been in the sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) business since 1846.
After meeting with Kudos Blends in early 2023, discussions quickly turned to collaborations when both parties discovered a shared passion for high-quality, innovative products. This mutual interest highlighted an opportunity for the Arm & Hammer portfolio to deliver uniquely positioned, healthier leavening solutions. With unrivalled technical support, these solutions enable manufacturers across the US to unlock new potential for healthier formulations.

Can you share a unique story or an interesting fact about Arm & Hammer™ that many people might not know?
It was the beginning of something bigger than either of them knew, but in 1846, brothers-in-law Dr. Austin Church and John Dwight began preparing bicarbonate of soda for commercial distribution. They proudly packaged this simple, yet versatile product by hand into paper bags in their first factory: Mr. Dwight’s kitchen.
In 1867 Austin Church retired and Church & Co. was formed by his two sons. The ARM & HAMMER logo was brought over from son James’ business, Vulcan Spice Mills. It symbolized the myth of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, who would strike his mighty hammer on his anvil. Over time, this strong and powerful icon became recognized as a symbol of quality all across the world.

What are some of the key milestones or achievements Arm & Hammer™ has reached over the years?
Our business-to-business team has led our growth in several ground-breaking applications, such as leavening and effervescence for iconic global brands. Through joint ventures and collaborative agreements, our bicarbonate expertise has expanded to include potassium and ammonium bicarbonate, and will continue to grow beyond bicarbonates.
What do you enjoy most about working with Kudos Blends and our products?
Every member of the Kudos Blends team we have met shares an enthusiasm and commitment to advancing the art and science of leavening. They are dedicated to bringing unique products to market and having some fun along the way!
Integrating Kudos Blends’ products into our offerings has proceeded smoothly thanks to detailed planning and follow-through on commitments. The technical documentation is complete, communication has been excellent, and regular meetings with the Kudos Blends team have been very helpful in supporting our marketing efforts.
What trends are you currently seeing in the US market?
Healthy eating and the impact of diet on overall well-being clearly resonate with consumers. Reducing dietary sodium levels is a key objective for food manufacturers, driven by global regulatory pressure.
